Moving your business to a new office can be stressful, but there are steps you can take to prepare for the move that can make it easier. Take a look at these five tips and follow them to maximise your chance of success.

1. Start Planning Early

A solid plan is essential to ensure the success of any office move. The first step of your planning should be to obtain a floorplan for your new premises so you can figure out where all your furniture will sit in the new space. Doing this planning early gives you time to donate, recycle or sell items that won't work in your new premises.

2. Obtain Quotes From Commercial Removal Services

Commercial removal services vary greatly in the prices they charge and the types of services that they provide. Take the time to obtain quotes from a few different companies before you decide which one to work with. Be sure to compare more than just the total cost of the move. A slightly more expensive commercial removal service that offers help with packing can work out to be more cost-effective than opting for a bare-bones service that has a lower price.

3. Notify Your IT Department

Your IT department has an enormous amount of work to do to ensure your office move goes well. Be sure to let them know as soon as possible so they have time to plan and prepare. On moving day, IT workers need to power down all of your office IT equipment, pack it securely to protect it against damage, and then set it up again in the new space. Be responsive to questions from your IT department to ensure they have all the information they need to plan a successful move.

4. Read the Regulations

Businesses that rent office spaces need to check the building regulations for both their old and new buildings. Some commercial buildings have regulations that prevent their tenants from doing relocations during standard office hours. In other buildings, you might need to obtain advance permission to access the goods lift.

5. Set Up Mail Redirection

It is important to ensure that your office move doesn't result in you missing important parcels and letters. You need to set up mail redirection to send mail to your new business address. You should also contact your business partners, clients, and contacts to ensure they have your new address.
